Rock Hudson Movie Posters Book

Greg Lenburg

Antiques & Collectibles / Posters

The Rock Hudson Movie Posters Book chronicles Hudson’s long and successful film career by presenting more than 50 rare, full color posters from his theatrical features, including a section on early roles before he became a major star.

When Hudson (whose real name was Roy Harold Scherer, Jr.) tried out for school plays, he didn’t get the parts because he couldn’t remember his lines. In the late 1940s, when he was cast in his first, minor movie role, it took 38 takes for him to perform his one line correctly.

Despite this setback, he went on to become a movie legend. With his charm and good looks, Hudson is best remembered for his romantic comedies of the 1950s and 1960s, particularly those he made with Doris Day.

One of the most popular stars of all time, Hudson received an Oscar nomination for his role in Giant (1956).

(Footnote: The films, Shakedown (1950), Tomahawk (1951), Seminole (1953), Gun Fury (1953),Beneath the 12-Mile Reef (1953) and Hornets’ Nest (1970) are not represented in his book. High quality posters were unavailable for publication. Bright Victory (1951) is also not represented. Hudson’s image or name did not appear on promotional posters. He was billed 18th in the film.)
