Aizenberg emphasizes how - through fiction, journalism, and activism - these five culture-makers opposed and fought fascism. At the same time, her readings of individual texts confront shopworn clichŽs about Latin American writing and literature, suggesting deeper and richer dimensions to many canonical works.
