Jane Eyre, originally publishedas Jane Eyre: An Autobiography, is a novel by English writer Charlotte Brontë.

The book tackles the themes of love, family, independence, social classes, gender roles, and religion, among others, portrayed in the inner life of a woman and her struggles.

The story begins with the title character being a 10-year-old orphan who lives with her uncle's family. Other than the nursemaid, Bessie, the family ostracizes Jane. After an incident, Jane was sent to a religious boarding school for orphans--Lowood Institute.

Jane and the other students were mistreated at Lowood; they never had warm clothes nor enough food to eat. Jane manages to find a friend and a teacher who later became her two main role models. They guided her personal growth despite being ill-treated by many others. She remains at Lowood until she found the courage to leave at 18-years-old.

Jane starts a job at a governess job at a country house called Thornfield. She is to tutor a little French girl, Adèle Varens for a wealthy Byronic employer, Edward Rochester.

Jane and Edward eventually fell in love, but there is an eerie secret somewhere in Thornfield and she, for some reason, leaves the house. Somehow, Jane ended up exhausted, starving, and on the verge of death by the doorstep of the unfamiliar River Family, who turned out to be her cousins!
